What is the difference between stainless steel SUS304 and 304

Both stainless steel SUS304 and stainless steel 304 are stainless steel materials. Stainless steel SUS304 is a stainless steel specified in the Japanese standard JIS G4303, and stainless steel 304 is a stainless steel specified in the American standard ASTM A240/A240M.

The main differences between them are:

standard
SUS304 conforms to Japanese JIS standards, while 304 conforms to American ASTM standards.

chemical composition
Although both stainless steel SUS304 and stainless steel 304 contain 18% chromium and 8% nickel, the chemical composition of stainless steel SUS304 and stainless steel 304 is slightly different. For example, stainless steel SUS304 contains 0.08% carbon, while stainless steel 304 contains up to 0.08% carbon.

steel grade
The steel number of stainless steel SUS304 is SUS304, and the steel number of stainless steel 304 can be 304, 304L, 304H and other different types.

Application field
Although the properties of stainless steel SUS304 and stainless steel 304 are basically the same, they have differences in some application fields. For example, in Japan, stainless steel SUS304 is widely used in the manufacture of kitchen utensils, chemical industry equipment and architectural decoration, while in the United States, stainless steel 304 is more commonly used in food processing equipment, medical equipment and auto parts and other fields.
