Nippon Steel announced that it has developed laser-tailored aluminum-silicon-coated hot-formed steel and started selling it in Japan.
It is reported that laser tailor welding technology is to weld steel sheets (blanks) of different thickness and strength together by laser to provide blanks for stamping. By applying laser tailor welding technology, the strength and thickness of components can be optimized, thereby improving body performance, reducing body weight, and reducing costs. The laser tailor-welded hot-formed steel B-pillar currently developed by Nippon Steel cancels the reinforcement plate, and the lightweight effect reaches 29%, and meets the requirements of side impact.
SM490C is a steel sheet that can be used in hot rolled welded structures. SM490C is defined in the standard JIS G3106.

SM490C steel has more reliable tensile strength than SM400C steel. SM490B steel plate can be used in buildings, bridges, ships, vehicles, construction machinery, and the applicable thickness of this SM490C steel material is defined as 6mm - 300mm in JIS G3106, which is the Japanese material standard for SM490C welded structural steel plates.
