Characteristics and applications of Corten-A steel

Corten-A steel, also known as ASTM A242 Type 1 steel, A588 Gr.A steel, and the common "weather steel", is a low-alloy high-strength steel with excellent atmospheric corrosion resistance, and belongs to the external standard atmospheric corrosion resistance steel grade. It is short for weather-resistant, corrosion-resistant, high-tensile steel, and is famous for its high weather resistance, corrosion resistance and high tensile strength among all metal materials.

Corten-A steel features:

Corrosion resistance: Corten-A steel has excellent atmospheric corrosion resistance and can form a dense oxide film in the natural environment to prevent the intrusion of corrosive media, thereby reducing the corrosion rate.

High strength: The steel has high strength and toughness, its tensile strength is generally between 370-500MPa, the yield strength is between 280-400MPa, and the elongation is between 18%-25%.

Unique appearance: Corten-A steel after a long time of natural corrosion, will form a unique rust color surface, this rust color is not only beautiful, but also has a certain decorative.

Corten-A steel is made by adding a little copper, chromium, phosphorus, and other elements to ordinary steel, and is made by special treatment, which also includes carbon, silicon, manganese, sulfur, nickel and molybdenum. These elements can form a dense oxide layer, thereby preventing further oxidative corrosion of the steel.

Corten-A steel The same domestic weathering steel is divided into hot rolled and cold rolled two delivery states. Cold rolling commonly used brands are 05CuPCrNi, Q310NQL2, Q310GNH, etc., the thickness is generally between 0.5MM-2.0MM. The thickness of hot rolled is between 1.5MM and 50MM, and hot rolled steel below 20MM is generally delivered in the form of rolls.

Because of its unique weather resistance and high strength, Corten-A steel is widely used in a variety of buildings, Bridges, railways, highways, industrial equipment and other fields. In the field of architecture, it is often used on exterior walls, roofs, sculptures, etc., to create a unique natural texture and beautiful rust-colored surfaces. In the field of Bridges, it is often used in beams, piers, guardrail and other parts, with excellent corrosion resistance and durability. In addition, it is also widely used in the manufacture of trains, cars, trucks and other means of transportation.
