EH40 Steel: Top-Grade Marine Steel for Extreme Conditions

EH40 is the top grade in marine high-strength steels, representing the highest level of performance in current marine engineering steels. It is designed for harsh environments combining extreme low temperatures, high impacts, and heavy loads, complying with the highest international classification standards.

EH40 features a combination of ultra-low-temperature toughness and ultra-high strength, with a yield strength ≥390MPa and excellent impact toughness even at -60℃. Its fatigue and corrosion resistance are significantly superior to ordinary marine steels. Produced using advanced controlled rolling and cooling technologies, its chemical composition is precisely controlled: carbon ≤0.16%, manganese 1.00%-1.80%, with appropriately increased nickel to enhance low-temperature performance, and sulfur, phosphorus controlled below 0.020% to ensure steel purity and stability.

Applications focus on the harshest marine engineering fields, such as ice-breaking structures of polar icebreakers, key load-bearing components of deep-sea oil and gas platforms, and liquid tank shells of ultra-large LNG carriers. In these extreme environments, EH40 withstands multiple challenges of repeated impacts, ultra-low temperatures, and seawater corrosion, serving as a core material ensuring safe equipment operation.
