Pilbara Port in Western Australia on the edge of the Indian Ocean. The climate here is dry and rainfall is erratic.
Pilbara Ports Authority has announced that it will receive a $160 million grant to build a new multi-purpose terminal at the Port of Dampier, primarily for the export of iron ore, liquefied natural gas (LNG) and salt.
It is reported that the funding comes from the Northern Australia Infrastructure Fund (NAIF) and is mainly used to upgrade infrastructure including the Pilbara Port Authority.
Rita Saffioti, Director of Ports of the Pilbara, said: "The development of the new multi-user terminal at the Port of Dampier will accommodate more bulk carriers, cruise ships and general cargo ships and we will make the most of this vital infrastructure.
