16Mo3 is a chrome molybdenum based steel which has excellent heat resistance and corrosion resistant characteristics. For these reasons alone, the steel is a popular in the manufacture of pressurised vessels and boilers. The material offers good welding properties when using conventional welding methods and due to the materials excellent heat resistance, 16Mo3 is also used in pipework for transporting hot liquids.

The material is used as a weldable steel in the fabrication of industrial boilers and steel pressurised vessels found in the oil, gas and chemical industry. Due to the materials chrome and molybdenum content, 16Mo3 has excellent heat resistance and corrosion resistant characteristics.
Equivalents for this steel grade can be found under both the ASTM and ASME steel specifications for chrome moly (A387 and SA387 respectively).
16Mo3 Steel is mainly used for boilers and pressure vessels with elevated temperatures according to EN 10028–2 (2003). It is equivalent to 15D3 (AFNOR 36206 ) and UNI5869 16Mo316Mo3 with Molybdenum alloy steel plates which is mainly used for constructing pressure vessels and boilers. The delivery condition of this grade shall be Normalized.
