What is ASTM A240 304 Stainless Steel?

ASTM A240 304 is a type 304 stainless steel manufactured according to ASTM A240 standard. ASTM A240 is a standard for heat-resistant steel plates and strips used in pressure vessels, and 304 is one of the stainless steel types.

ASTM A240 304 Stainless Steel Features:

Corrosion resistance: 304 stainless steel has good corrosion resistance in the atmosphere, but in industrial atmospheres or heavily polluted areas, regular cleaning may be required to avoid corrosion.

High temperature resistance: It has good resistance to high temperature oxidation.

Machinability: 304 stainless steel has good machinability and formability, and is easy to weld.

Strength and toughness: It has a certain strength and toughness, and can withstand a variety of working environments and working loads.

Non-magnetic: Its organizational structure is austenite, so it is not magnetic.

Chemical Composition of ASTM A240 304 Stainless Steel:

Carbon (C) : ≤0.03%

Silicon (Si) : ≤1.00%

Manganese (Mn) : ≤2.00%

Phosphorus (P) : ≤0.045%

Sulfur (S) : ≤0.015%

Chromium (Cr) : 16.5~18.5%

Nickel (Ni) : 6.00~8.00%

Nitrogen (N) : 0.1~0.2%

In some alloys, 3.1% aluminum is also added to improve resistance to high-temperature corrosion.

Due to its excellent corrosion resistance, high temperature resistance and processing properties, ASTM A240 304 stainless steel is widely used in many fields, including but not limited to construction, chemical, food processing, shipbuilding, medical devices, and the automotive industry. In particular, due to its corrosion resistance, it is well suited for use in food processing, storage and transportation. In addition, plate heat exchangers, bellows, household goods, building materials, etc., are also common application areas.
